The Nepal government and the family of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary, who was murdered in Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1 of Bara, have reached a three-point agreement following discussions over the killing and subsequent developments.

The agreement was reached after talks between the government and the victim’s family continued until midnight at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Under the agreement, the existing legal provisions concerning offences and punishments for heinous criminal incidents will be reviewed in line with public expectations. A report, including recommendations for new legislation, will be submitted within seven days.

For this purpose, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will form a seven-member ‘Garima Justice Resolution Committee.’

The government has also agreed to take the initiative to construct a statue of Garima Chaudhary, in coordination with the local government and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, in line with the family’s demand.

The two sides also agreed that Garima’s parents will be allowed to perform her funeral rites according to their customs and traditions.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sabita Gautam, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Badi, and Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gila Chaudhary.
