With the monsoon underway, deaths from Japanese encephalitis (JE) continue to rise in Jhapa. The death toll in the district has reached six after a 64-year-old woman from Mechinagar Municipality-8 died from the infection.
According to public health inspector Bishwanath Shrestha of the District Health Office, the woman died last week. The district’s total number of JE infections has now reached 11, with four women and two men having died so far.
Shrestha said the office has stepped up JE testing across various parts of the district, and health worker teams remain continuously deployed for monitoring.
