Protesters surround Simara Police Office over Garima’s murder

Furious residents have shut down rural roads within Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City in Bara to protest the murder of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary following her rape.

Private and community schools within Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City held mourning assemblies and closed on Thursday.

Calling the brutal incident against the three-year-old girl a shock to the entire education sector, private and community schools issued a statement demanding the strictest possible action against those responsible.

Protesters, saying police failed to act in time and that this led to the girl’s murder, continued their agitation today, which began on Wednesday.

Protesters have been burning tyres and demonstrating on rural roads within the sub-metropolitan city since early Thursday morning. Traffic on the Birgunj-Pathalaiya road section, closed since Wednesday afternoon, has still not resumed.

Locals accuse the Area Police Office of serious negligence in the search for Garima. They allege that although her father filed a report at the Simara Area Police Office in time after she went missing, police failed to show urgency in the search.

Locals are now protesting, demanding action against DSP Dilip Chhetri, in-charge of the Simara Area Police Office.

Surrounding the Area Police Office in Simara, protesters put forward their demand for action against DSP Chhetri.

Protesters, burning tyres, have completely halted traffic on the Simara-Dumarwana, Piluwa-Wadaharwa, Simara-Jitpur and Pathalaiya-Simara road sections within Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City.

The Bara District Administration has said it remains positive about addressing the protesters’ demands and is attempting dialogue.

Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra said preparations were underway for decisive talks later today to address the protesters’ demands.

“We have already arrested the accused. As for the allegations of police negligence raised by locals, we are verifying that ourselves,” CDO Mishra said.
