Lalitkala Campus to host five-day International Music Festival

Tribhuvan University’s Lalitkala Campus and Shree Ram Chandra Mandir are jointly organising a five-day International Music Festival starting on June 13.

According to the organisers, the festival aims to create a shared global platform where regional musical traditions, traditional instruments, and the evolution of global soundscapes can be discussed and celebrated.

The festival will feature multiple components running in parallel. Daytime sessions will include paper presentations, musicology workshops, and panel discussions highlighting cross-disciplinary collaborations. Scholars will present research on contemporary musical challenges, including the opportunities and threats posed by AI in music education, intellectual property rights (IPR) and copyright issues in Nepal, and the role of music in tourism, among other topics.

Likewise, evening sessions will feature performances by national and international artists.

The seminars will be held on the campus premises, while the musical performances will take place at the Ram Mandir.

“This is one of the first events of its kind to be held in Nepal,” said Krishna Kharel, Assistant Campus Chief of Lalitkala Campus, Head of the Music Department and coordinator of the festival. “The festival will provide wider exposure to Nepali music and musicians.”

According to Kharel, musicians and scholars from India, China, the United States, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will attend the festival.

The festival will feature performances by Ramesh Pokharel, Zhou Ziyan, Chandan Vishwakarma, Dhrubesh Chandra Regmi, Nagendra Bikram Rai, Laboni Chakraborty, Sita Thapa, Yati Raj Adhikari, Agraj Bhattarai, and others
