Kathmandu:
Artist Erina Tamrakar is showcasing her latest exhibition titled Ma–Myself at 108 Gallery, Durbar Marg, presenting a series of paintings that explore the human face as a site of spiritual and emotional expression.
Opened on March 8, the exhibition will run until April 5. The collection moves beyond conventional portraiture, focusing instead on symbolic representations of inner states, memory, and consciousness.
The artworks feature layered compositions where faces emerge gradually through the interplay of light, shadow, and texture. Using a restrained palette of earthy browns, smoky greys, deep blues, and gold tones, Tamrakar creates a contemplative atmosphere, while occasional turquoise and orange hues add depth and contrast.
Light is used as a central element, with highlights often placed on the forehead and nose, suggesting awareness and introspection. The paintings combine fluid brushstrokes with rough textures, creating a balance between softness and intensity.
According to the artist, the exhibition reflects a personal journey inward, with the word “Ma” signifying the self. The works also incorporate subtle patterns, layered imagery, and cultural motifs, offering a contemporary interpretation of identity and spirituality.
