Suhang Nembang stakes claim for UML parliamentary party leader

Kathmandu

CPN-UML lawmaker Suhang Nembang has staked his claim for the post of parliamentary party leader. He announced during a meeting of the parliamentary party held today at the party office in Chyasal.

According to a leader present at the meeting, Nembang said he is aware of and respects the party’s procedures and seniority system, but emphasised that the current need is for youthful leadership.

“Reflecting the current public sentiment, the demands of the time, and the party’s own principle of achieving excellence through competition and upholding democratic practice, I express my desire,” a leader quoted Nembang as saying.

He also urged party leaders not to ignore the present national situation. “What does this situation demand?” he asked, adding that both the conditions inside and outside parliament must be carefully observed and understood.

“My statement does not mean that senior leaders are incapable. My slogan is that the present need is the energy of youth along with the experience and blessings of seniors,” he said.

Earlier, while arriving at Singha Durbar to take the oath of office as a Member of Parliament, Nembang had told journalists that he was ready to take on the role of parliamentary party leader. “If the party asks me to move forward, I will not hesitate,” he had said.

Nembang, 36, was re-elected from the Ilam-2 constituency.
