Kathmandu, March 23
A new ultra trail race event, the Mundum Trail Ultra, is set to take place in Koshi Province, marking the first edition of the Mundum Trails initiative.
The event is being organised by the Mundum Ultra Trail Steering Committee under the Trail Based Tourism Development Project led by Helvetas Nepal in association with the Koshi Province Ministry of Tourism, Forests and Environment.
The race will be held along the Mundum trail, stretching from Barahachetra to Kopche, passing through Aamchok, Hatuwagadhi and Ramprasad Rai municipalities.
Registration for the event is open until March 30, 2026.
“We don’t just want a one-day race, we want to build an outdoor infrastructure so that the trails will provide means of living to these communities long after the event is finished. We hope it will breathe new life into trekking tourism for the Great Mundum trail network,” said Preeti Khattri.
“This is not just a race, it is an opportunity for both domestic and international participants to experience the deeper parts of Nepal and Kirati traditions,” said Pabi Hang Rai.
The prize money includes NPR 80,000 each for the male and female winners in the 60 km category and NPR 60,000 each for winners in the 45 km category. Additional prizes will be awarded to veteran athletes aged 40 and above.
