NPL to be broadcast on Indian Star TV; not available on YouTube

Kathmandu, November 12

The upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament will be broadcast on both Indian Star Television and Nepali TV channels, according to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

While CAN had called for tenders for exclusive domestic broadcasting rights, it decided on Tuesday that Nepali TV channels will not have exclusive rights, as Star TV will also broadcast the matches.

The tender submission deadline is today, but CAN made the decision just a day earlier.

In addition, CAN is selling rights to stream all NPL matches through a mobile app, where viewers will have to pay to watch.

Unlike last year, when matches were available for free on YouTube, this year fans will need to use the paid mobile app to watch the games, including viewers outside Nepal.

CAN officials have yet to issue an official statement but confirmed the information has been emailed to tender participants.

An official said the formal announcement will be made after completing the technical process, possibly by tonight or tomorrow morning.

The NPL is scheduled to begin on November 17 and conclude on December 13.
