PM Oli lays foundation stone for new parliament building

Kathmandu, September 18

Prime Minister KP Oli on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the new federal parliament building, which will be built at Putali Bagaincha on Singha Durbar premises.

The Ministry of Urban Development estimates that the building will cost around Rs 7 billion.

However, contractors Tundi CK JV has said it can construct the building for Rs 5.6 billion. The company has asked for two years to complete the building.

The building will have two halls (one for the House of Representatives and one for the National Assembly) . Along with that, the building will also have space for parliament secretariat, party offices, and parliamentary committees.

The parliament is currently housed at the New Baneshwor-based International Conference Centre (ICC) building. The government pays an annual rent of Rs 150 million for the building.
