Kathmandu, May 24

Four people were found dead on Camp IV of Mount Everest on Wednesday morning, expedition organisers said as they tried to identify the deceased and bring their bodies to base camp.

According to Dawa Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks, the bodies were discovered by his team of Sherpa rescuers who were looking for a missing climber, Slovak Vladimir Strba, on Everest.

Dawa said two of the dead are Nepali nationals while the other two are foreigners.

Dawa Sherpa said the bodies of the deceased will be brought to base camp after details of the expedition emerge.

Meanwhile, the body of the Slovak climber is also yet to be found, the Seven Summit said. Although the cause of the death of the four climbers is yet to be ascertained, rescuers believe the climbers died due to lack of oxygen.

The death toll on the highest mountain in the world for this year’s spring climbing season now stands at 10.

Dinesh Bhattarai, an official at the Department of Tourism, told Onlinekhabar that officials are yet to get the details of the incident.
