Biratnagar, September 23
Police have seized an ambulance carrying 450 kg of marijuana in Itahari, Sunsari. Police recovered the marijuana, packed in plastic bundles, from the ambulance in a forest area along the Koshi Highway.
At around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, police attempted to stop an ambulance belonging to Triveni Cultural Group, bearing registration number Ba 2 Cha 9573, near Panipiya forest in Tarahara, Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-20. The driver fled after police attempted to stop the vehicle.
Police pursued the ambulance, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police have taken the ambulance and the 450 kg of marijuana into custody and kept them at the Area Police Office, Itahari.
According to police data, more than 72,000 kg of marijuana has been seized in Koshi Province over the past five fiscal years. Police seized 10,420 kg in fiscal year 2023/24; 26,705 kg in 2024/25; and 27,671 kg in 2025/26.
