Two people were killed and three others injured when a school bus collided with an auto-rickshaw in Jahada, Belaka Municipality-5, Udayapur, on Monday.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 9:45 am when an auto-rickshaw (Ko. Pra. 05-001 Ha 0613) heading from Supade towards Lalbazar collided with a bus (Ko. 1 Kha 3516) belonging to Safal Adarsha English Boarding School, which was coming from the opposite direction.
All five people travelling in the auto-rickshaw were injured in the accident. They were immediately taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Ghopa Hospital, Dharan, for treatment.
Police said 34-year-old Mandira Magar of Belaka Municipality-5 and an unidentified woman travelling in the auto-rickshaw died during treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared both dead.
Auto-rickshaw driver Indra Thapa, 28, of Belaka Municipality-5, sustained serious injuries.
Similarly, 19-year-old Ajit Gurung of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-12 is in moderate condition, while 18-year-old Roshan Magar of Belaka Municipality-5 also sustained serious injuries. All three injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Following the accident, a police team from the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila, was deployed to the scene.
Police said they have taken the bus involved in the accident and its driver, 36-year-old Bikram Thapa of Belaka Municipality-5, into custody.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
