Kathmandu, March 24

Traffic police have taken action against 175 drivers of various ride-sharing services under the special checking campaign. The traffic police had launched the campaign in the wake of rising traffic congestion and unruly driving.

The Valley Traffic Police Office informed that it conducted special check especially on busy roads. As the drivers of ride-hailing services were found violating traffic rules, they were punished, according to SP Naresh Raj Subedi.

Many drivers did not care about the speed limit, conducted service illegally- running vehicles without operating an online platform, had random pick and drop, ignored technical maintenance of vehicles, and even drove without bearing the necessary documents like a license.

Random parking, like at busy road intersections, hospital and school areas, was also found during the checking, the traffic added. Even the companies running ride-sharing services are urged to ensure strict monitoring of drivers. Pathao, InDrive and Yango are some of the popular ride-hailing services in Nepal. Both two-wheelers and taxies are providing services aligned with these companies.
