Kathmandu, February 16

The Election Commission has almost finalised the calendar for local elections slated for May 13, according to which the parties and their candidates will get only 13 days for electioneering.

The election calendar, however, is yet to be published, meaning it could see some changes at the last minute.

But, according to the preliminary plan, the candidates will have to file their nominations on April 22 or 23. The commission will finalise the candidates’ final list on April 28, only after letting people file complaints against the candidates and investigate the complaints.

Formal electioneering will begin only after the finalisation of the candidates’ list.

Likewise, the commission will ban parties from campaigning in the last two days before the voting. It means promotional campaigns will be allowed until May 10.

The commission is preparing to publish the calendar within a few days.
