1 killed, 8 injured in Makawanpur bus accident

Birgunj, August 19

One man died when other eight people were injured when a bus turned sideways on the road along the Hetaunda-Pathalaiya section of the East-West Highway, in the Makawanpur district, on Thursday.

Police say the victim has been identified as Dharma Raj Regmi (49), a resident of Kamane, Hetaunda-8 of the Makawanpur district. Regmi was behind the wheel of the vehicle (Na 6 Kha 4641) heading to Rautahat from Kathmandu.

The vehicle’s brake failed near the Churiyamai temple in the Makawanpur district, hitting a motorbike and then turning sideways, informs DSP Gautam Mishra, the spokesperson of the Bara District Police Office.

Other eight persons are injured. One of them is serious and he has been taken to the Chitwan Medical College for further treatment.

The rider of the bike (Province 03-001 Pa 411), Indra Bahadur Karki (35), a resident of Chaukitole, Hetaunda sub-metropolitan city-2, is also injured but out of danger.

In total, 28 persons were travelling on the bus.
