Kathmandu, June 27

Venezuela has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of Copa America 2024 after winning two consecutive matches. In a Group B match on Thursday morning, Venezuela defeated Mexico 1-0, ensuring their place in the last eight.

The match, held at SoFi Stadium in California, saw Salomon Rondon score the decisive goal from a penalty in the 57th minute for Venezuela. Mexico had an opportunity to equalise but failed to capitalise on it.

In the 87th minute, Mexico’s Orbelin Pineda’s penalty shot was saved by Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo. With these back-to-back victories, Venezuela now leads the group with 6 points. They had previously defeated Ecuador in their first match.

Ecuador and Mexico both have 3 points each. The final match between these two teams will determine the other team advancing to the quarterfinals. Jamaica, having suffered two consecutive losses, has been eliminated from the group stage with one game remaining.
