Supreme Court orders reinstatement of IoM Dean who was sacked due to Dr Govinda KC’s protest

File: Dr Shashi Sharma

Kathmandu, January 7

The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered that Tribhuvan University reinstate Dr Shashi Sharma as the Dean of Institute of Medicine.

A division bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and Justice Deepak Kumar Karki issued the verdict.

The government around four years ago had sacked Dr Sharma from the position owing to a demand put forth by medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC.

Dr KC had demanded that the appointment be made on the basis of seniority. Then, Dr Rakesh Prasad Shreevastav was appointed the Dean.

Speaking with journalists at the Court premises, Dr Sharma said the Court enabled him to get back the appointment today itself if he was willing. He said he was given justice by the Court.

However, Dr Sharma will enjoy the benefits for just four days as he is due to retire on Thursday as he will complete four years of appointment.

But, Sharma said, “I will assume the position even for a single day if the University allows me. I should be provided with justice.”
