Kathmandu, March 20
General Secretary of Nepali Congress Dr Shashank Koirala has asked everyone to press the government to hold a referendum on the role of religion in the state.
Speaking at an event in his residence in Tokha, Koirala said he would openly support such referendum. “One of the four stars in the Nepali Congress flag stands for religious freedom. But I personally feel that religion is neither independent nor can it be compared with other,” Koirala added.
He also said that along with a religious referendum, a referendum on republicanism and federalism should also take place in the country and added that Nepali Congress was ready to support it.
