Phunjo Lama atop Sagarmatha claiming record of fastest climber

Kathmandu, May 23

Nepali woman climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama of Gorkha district has kept the record for the fastest ascent to the Sagarmatha, reaching the world’s highest peak, in less than 15 hours.

Phunjo was atop the world’s tallest peak at 6:23 am on Thursday, making the record for the fastest ascent by a woman.

Chief of the Tourism Department’s Temporary Field Office, Khimlal Gautam, confirmed that Phunjo reached the top of the tallest peak at 6:23 am starting her expedition at 3:52 pm on Wednesday from the Everest Base Camp. She reached the top of the world in 14 hours 31 minutes. Earlier in 2018, Phunjo kept a record by scaling Mt Everest in 39 hours and 6 minutes.
