Nepali Congress boycotts Hearing Committee meeting

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Kathmandu, February 17

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, on Sunday boycotted the meeting of Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee.

The party representatives had walked out the meeting two weeks ago, objecting to the  Constitutional Council’s recommendations for chiefs of various constitutional bodies, claiming they were recommended by a meeting, for which the main opposition leader was informed later.

Despite the walkout, the February 3 meeting had commenced the hearing process for Balananda Paudel recommended for Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, Shanta Raj Subedi named for National Inclusive Commission, Bijaya Kumar Datta named for Madheshi Commission, Bishnu Kumar Chaudhary named for Tharu Commission and Samim Ansari named for Muslim Commission.

Accordingly, the Sunday meeting decided to conduct the hearing with Paudel and Subedi at its next meeting scheduled for 12 pm on Friday.

Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Jitendra Narayan Dev, Pushpa Bhusal and Bhimsen Das Pradhan represent the main opposition party in the hearing panel that comprises 15 members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
