Mahara misconduct: Alleged victim, her husband separate

Kathmandu, October 3

Roshani Shahi, a woman who first accused Nepal Communist Party leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara of sexually abusing her but later withdrew her statement, and her husband Chitra Jung Shahi decided to separate, apparently due to a misunderstanding emerged after the came to the light.

Chitra Jung posted a signed agreement on his Facebook this morning, citing they decided to separate, ending the 28 years of marriage. However, in the agreement, they have not used the formal word ‘divorce’ or anything that denotes the formal end of the relation. Nonetheless, they said they would now continue with the legal procedures.

When Roshani first approached media and told about Mahara’s alleged abuse, Chitra Jung was outside Kathmandu Valley. After the incident led to Mahara’s resignation from the position of House of Representatives Speaker, Chitra Jung came to Kathmandu and decided to separate.
