Kathmandu Airport to temporarily close for half an hour on Qatari King’s arrival

Kathmandu, April 22

Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will be closed for half an hour during the visit of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.

According to Tribhuvan Airport sources, a ‘Notice to Airmen'(Notam) has been issued for Tuesday afternoon from 4.30 pm to 5 pm.

When the Notam is issued for VVIP flights, there are usually no flights from other airlines.

“There may be flight-landing in case of emergency,” he said, “VVIP flight is given priority in normal situations.”

According to sources, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is set to arrive in a private aircraft. The parking bay will also be kept empty to keep his aircraft. It has not been disclosed whether other aircraft of allies will come with the king.

A similar kind of Notam will also be issued at the time of his return on Wednesday. During state visits, there is a trend of closing the airport for the respect and safety of very special guests.
