Fatal clash in Sarlahi: Police identify shooter

Investigating police officials have said they have identified the person who opened a fire during a clash between cadres of ruling Nepal Communist Party and main opposition Nepali Congress in Ramnagar of Sarlahi district, in Province 2.

A Nepali Congress cadre, Ram Bilas Mahato (50), was killed in the incident on Tuesday afternoon. The party has suspected that some NCP cadres opened the fire.

SP Posha Raj Pokharel, chief of the District Police Office, says police have intensified the manhunt to find the suspect.

The DPO has requested the Central Investigation Bureau in Kathmandu to provide needful support in the search operation.

“Yes, we are preparing to send a team under the command of a deputy superintendent,” a CIB officials informs Onlinekhabar in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress is planning to organise a protest programme in the district headquarters, Malangawa, today. The party’s Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi and spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma will address the demonstration.

Police have said they have mobilised additional personnel to avoid any untoward incident.
