33.5 kg gold smuggling: Gore’s accomplice held from UAE

Kathmandu, February 5

Police in the United Arab Emirates have recently arrested a suspect connecting with the notorious 33.5 kg gold smuggling case allegedly led by Chudamani Upreti ‘Gore’.

The arrestee has been identified as Hari Sharan Khadka, a permanent resident of Kavre district. He is accused of supplying gold to Gore’s gang in Nepal from the Gulf country.

Nepal Police Headquarters says Khadka was arrested under a red notice issued by the International Police Organisation (Interpol). The organisation had issued such notice against 12 persons allegedly involved in the case.

Two of them were already arrested whereas nine are still on the run.

The 40-year-old Khadka has been residing in the UAE for past 10 years. Of late, he had quit his job and was active in smuggling, according to investigators.
