Why is the political leader an outcast?

A persistent student, who had followed his ideals and guides in student politics for more than a decade, made an announcement one day. He stated that he was left with no more ideals to uphold. He was saying that, but why?

As another friend expressed it. I no longer enjoy watching televised interviews of Nepali politicians. Even the sound of their voices bothers me. Such things do not exist to be studied or taught. Their talks and statements include no lessons worth learning. They did not amuse at all.

At that time, it seemed that the leaders were on some ideological political level. We followed them. We have soughed votes for them as well. We supported them too. But today I am on the way to severely criticising them. He was saying that too.

Why was there such a harsh criticism?

Lack of originality

leadership and action

Leaders are incompetent to grow over time. These days, leaders do not study. They do not have time to accumulate information. They have no spare time for processing either. A group of youthful people are enthralled with spreading the leaders’ hate speech towards one another as phoney political and ideological expression.

Sitting actively in the leader’s niche and obeying their order is what young leaders do these days. Not only does the leader not read much, but neither do the workers. The ideological and political maturity of the youth serves as one of the marks for determining whether youthful leaders are progressive. Their standing demonstrates that they lack originality.

The people who are referred to as leaders in the community maintained the status quo- not able to progress over time. The advancement of precise social knowledge and scientific theoretical analysis has been made possible for all of them by globalisation. Somewhere along this line, the leaders’ train split apart. When the worker glanced at his leader a few years later, he did not notice a timely change in the leader. The worker knew his leaders were not making anything productive. It was revealed to him that his leader never studied. Therefore, the people and cadres have reached the mood not to follow the path shown by them. Nepali society is focused on the practice of changing leaders and criticising old leaders bitterly.

That is not the only situation. If we look more closely at the last few years, we can see that hate speech, offensive remarks, and irrational political stunts have consumed the most amount of time in national politics.

Politicians manipulate instead of providing legitimate delivery. The number of young people who dream of a well-off, sophisticated existence is dwindling. The reason for this is that they do not perceive any opportunities. Their patience is practically at an all-time low. What actions are the officials taking?

Their degree of tolerance and hope is being increased by their amount of frustration. Today’s youth are seeking advantage of opportunities rather than waiting around. A few decades in the past can be compared to a few years in the present. A few lost years of youth are quite important. Youth claim this is the reason why they think no one would guarantee that the country will develop and that the system will run well. In addition to the assurances, there is absolutely no hope. Completely no hope from the political level. If no commitments are coming from the other side, if it is almost impossible to build hope, if there are no moral principles to uphold; why would young people pay attention to the leaders?

The young people who harshly condemn the leaders and do not wait to pass judgment on them may be partially correct. They are unable to locate anything compelling in those lectures and interviews that are factual. The leaders are untrustworthy and lack credibility.

Study for synthesising ideas

Leaders need to read more. Studying and analysing can be done at any moment. Leaders who do not advance in a chronological manner will be ignored and most likely shunned. Leaders who are young must advance more than regular citizens throughout time. That is not happening in the scene, even though it is true. Merely a small percentage of Nepali leaders study out of the box. Reading also means synthesising ideas. Those who do not read do not understand. Those who do not understand cannot deliver.

Interestingly, these days fake promises and manipulative approaches are seen to be more popular. Some other leaders believe in manipulative techniques. They aim to incite the crowd and focus on themselves. Such leaders who walk with the purpose of momentary gain seem to be experts in it. But they have no involvement in the political contribution. In the long term, they will have no weight. In 2018, former US President Donald Trump had to bear the accusation that he does not read and seems to be only semi-educated. The reason for such an accusation was not only political commentary but also that he is only good at manipulation and is not knowledgeable in any other political field.

By using this manipulative principle, alternative politics is playing on the minds of Nepali society. The new ones, who are eager to do politics by showing that the old ones are useless, have not been able to deliver.

The questions of thought, system and management that they have raised seem to be attractive. Apart from that, they have no other things which seem to be anything special. When ideas, systems and management are ineffective and almost useless, alternative forces come into play. This is the natural method of social change. But under the guise of this, those who bake bread in hot ovens also run a business. As long as only a limited number and group in society can question the ideological and political views of the alternative forces, they continue to play emotional games in the majority. Society continues to be manipulated. As a result, the country continues to suffer from depression. It’s kind of like a scam. Its control is only the development and enhancement of the ideological-political consciousness level of the society.

The society and the social leaders should progress together. The consciousness level of the social leader should be able to lead the society. If the youth does not find anything to learn from the previous generation and his ideal towards them dies, he will not continue to respect them. He stops following them. The only solution is the timely development of leaders. Only progressive thinking, information and new ideas related to science and technology can minimize the deviation of such ideals. Timely study and research are indispensable.
