Kathmandu, January 23
A shortage of timbers has affected the ongoing reconstruction of historic Kashthamandap temple in Kathmandu. The centuries-old temple had collapsed during the 2015 earthquake.
The project has used 5,000 cubic feet timbers and it requires around 10,000 cubic feet more, according to a consumer committee that has been coordinating the reconstruction works. Provincial lawmaker Rajesh Shakya leads the committee.
The committee claims efforts are underway to fetch the necessary wood from the forests in Terai.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to allocate Rs 50 million more for the reconstruction project. Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya says the amount will be handed over to the consumer committee today itself.
Earlier, the city government had given Rs 55 million to the committee.
The reconstruction had begun in May 2018 with a target of completing it in two years. However, only a little more than 50 per cent works have been over so far, according to Shakya.
