Supreme Court refuses to register contempt of court case against Chief Justice

File: Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli

Kathmandu, February 6

The Supreme Court has refused to register an application charging Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli of a contempt of court case.

Earlier, advocate Manoj Adhikari had gone to the court claiming Parajuli’s statement in response to senior advocate Surendra Bhandari’s claim that the Chief Justice threatened him to kill disrespected the independent judiciary. Bhandari was also made a defendant in the case.

But, the court decided not to register the application claiming the applicant failed to clarify how the statement was a contempt.

The court administration says it may register the writ if Adhikari comes up again with a better explanation.
