Presidents Paudel and Steinmeier to meet this evening in Berlin

Kathmandu, June 17

President Ram Chandra Paudel, who is currently on an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, is set to hold formal talks with German President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier this evening. President Paudel’s visit to Germany follows his recent trip to Switzerland.

President Paudel arrived in Berlin on Saturday night, responding to an official invitation from President Steinmeier. This evening, the two leaders will engage in delegation-level discussions to strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Germany.

Earlier today, President Paudel received a Guard of Honour from the German government in Berlin. Diplomatic relations between Nepal and Germany were established on April 4, 1958. Since then, the relationship has flourished based on friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation. Both countries maintain embassies in each other’s capitals. This visit marks the first official trip to Germany by a Nepali head of state since 1986.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal established its embassy in Berlin on July 5, 1965, while Germany set up its embassy in Kathmandu in 1963. In 2018, both nations celebrated the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship with various events.

Ministry spokesperson Amrit Bahadur Rai noted that exchanges of visits at various levels have significantly strengthened the close and cordial ties between Nepal and Germany.
