Kathmandu, August 24
Poultry farmers have launched a protest, demanding measures to prevent the displacement of small-scale farmers.
Farmers from various parts of the country staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala, calling on the government to break the network of middlemen and establish a direct link between farmers and consumers.
They also demanded an end to the grading system in the poultry sector, a crackdown on the smuggling of poultry from India, and transparency in the prices of poultry feed and chicks. They called for the introduction of a scientific pricing system and measures to ensure the quality of feed and chicks.
The farmers further demanded that their labour be respected and that their investments be guaranteed.
