Nepal Police has begun preparations to revise its Police Leadership and Staff Course (PLSC) after a large number of police officers failed the entrance examination, leaving seats in the course unfilled.
The Police Headquarters has formed a seven-member committee led by DIG Bishwa Adhikari to study the existing course and recommend possible revisions.
Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Abinarayan Kafle confirmed that the committee was formed on Bhadra 17 and has been given 15 days to submit its report.
“The committee has been formed as part of preparations to revise the course, and it has started its work. Further decisions will be taken after the committee submits its report,” Kafle told Onlinekhabar.
The committee will study the staff college course and recommend whether it should be revised and, if so, which subjects should be added, removed or modified. The admission process for the new batch has been halted pending the committee’s report.
The staff college course was formally launched in Baisakh 2082 after nearly two decades of preparations. It was considered a major project for Nepal Police and is linked to promotion to senior leadership positions.
The course has a quota of 35 officers per batch. However, only 17 of 131 officers passed the entrance examination in the first batch. In the second batch, 15 of 89 candidates passed.
Under the current rules, an officer can sit for the entrance examination only three times. Failure to pass the staff college course can significantly affect promotion prospects, with passing the course mandatory for promotion to DIG.
Police officials say the course is being reviewed partly because officers deployed extensively in the field often have limited time to prepare for the entrance examination. The review is also intended to prevent the course from adversely affecting officers’ careers because of difficulties in finding adequate study time.
