A loan shark victim tried to die by suicide inside the district administration office (DAO) in Morang.

Vinit Sonar, 32, of Katahari rural municipality consumed pesticides at the premises of the DAO in Morang on Sunday afternoon.

Sonar’s wife Rita had filed a complaint against Dr Nitesh Tiwari claiming they were loan shark victims. After receiving the complaint, DAO Morang called both parties for discussion on Sunday.

The police said that he took the poison when he came for discussions and was about to be arrested by the police. The police had issued an arrest warrant against him in a case related to check bounce.

Assistant chief district officer of Morang, Pradeep Sah, held a discussion on the petition related to them being loan shark victims on Sunday. According to Sah, there is no transaction document between the two parties. The victim claimed that he had taken a loan of Rs 700,000 from Tiwari. But Tiwari said he gave them Rs 1.5 million.

“There are only verbal claims of both sides regarding the transaction. They do not have any written agreement for evidence”, Sah said. “One person says he took Rs 700,000, the other says he gave Rs 1.5 million.”

After Sunday’s discussion did not reach a conclusion, Sah gave time to both sides to come back after five days.

“However, it came to light that the young man who came out of the office had taken poison, while his friends were in the office,” said Sah.

Sonar runs a tea shop in front of RK Children’s Hospital in Biratnagar metropolitan city.

A team from District Police Office Morang arrived to arrest Sonar in the check bounce case. Sonar consumed the poison after the police tried to arrest him inside.

According to DSP Ranjan Kumar Dahal, Pradeep Bhujel of Biratnagar has filed separate complaints against Sonar saying that he has not received Rs 200,000 and Vinod Dhakal has not received Rs 600,000.

On the basis of both complaints, the police issued an arrest warrant.
