Legatum Prosperity Index: Nepal more prosperous than India, China

Nepal is more prosperous than India and China, shows the Legatum Prosperity Index of 2017.

The index published by international think-tank Legatum Institute ranks Nepal in the 89th position, which is one position above China and 11 position above India.

The ranking is based on scores in nine variables; namely: economic quality, business environment, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom, social capital, and natural environment.

Among the variables, Nepal’s achievement is best in personal freedom (39) whereas the worst in natural environment, in which Nepal is in the 126th position.

The country has been ranked in the 45th position in economic quality, 114th in business environment, 84th in governance, 115th in education, 107th in health, 83rd in safety and security, and 83rd in social capital.

Norway tops the chart whereas Yemen is at the bottom among 149 countries.

The Legatum Institute, the publisher of the index, is a privately funded think-tank founded in 2007 and located in Mayfair, London.
