Kathmandu, November 2
The Kathmandu metropolitan city has barred a volunteer group from distributing food to the needy at Khulamanch, citing the act ‘insulted’ the local government.
Some volunteers had been providing lunch to the helpless people who lost jobs due to the Covid-19 crisis since the country went on the lockdown in March. However, the local government has argued the act of providing food on the streets ‘insulted’ it.
Badri Prasad Dhungana, a volunteer involved in the campaign, says the city government has mobilised its police force to bar them from distributing food since Saturday.
Officials have claimed there is no need to distribute food in the open currently, adding the act also made the open space dirty.
