Models of embossed number plates

Kathmandu, December 14

The government has set deadlines for four-wheelers registered with the Department of Transportations’ Bagmati Zone office to switch to embossed number plates.

As per the deadline, four-wheelrs (lots 1 to 12) will not be allowed to ply without an embossed number plate from the second week of May and for others, the rule will apply from the first week of August 2018. Similarly, government and government corporation vehicles have also been given till the second week of May to comply with the new rule.

The department had earlier distributed embossed plates with the name of the zone concerned, but after questions were raised about the constitutional status of zones, the decision was revoked. Embossed plates will now bear the name of the province.

According to the department, owners of three wheelers such as autorickshaws will have to pay Rs 2,900 for each plate while the amount for cars, vans, jeeps and tractors has been fixed at Rs 3,200. Vehicle owners can apply for embossed plates online.
