Abdul Sattar announces candidacy for Congress joint general secretary

Kathmandu, October 4

Nepali Congress Central Member Abdul Sattar has announced his candidacy for joint general secretary.

Speaking to journalists in Kupondole this morning, Sattar said he would contest the post at the party’s 15th General Convention. The convention runs from today until October 8, and he will run in the Muslim cluster. He said he announced it after consulting the party leadership.

Sattar is the founding president of the Nepal Muslim Sangh, a sister organisation of the Nepali Congress, and led it for 15 years. He has been a convention and General Committee member since the 12th General Convention. He was elected central member at the 14th General Convention, and again at the special general convention held last Poush.

“I have worked for a long time in the sister organisation and at various levels of the party,” Sattar said. “I trust that colleagues across the country will evaluate the work I have done.”

According to Sattar, the leadership has said it will not form panels at the convention.
