Siraha, October 30
Construction of the Kamala Bridge, which connects Siraha and Dhanusha districts along the Postal Highway, is progressing rapidly, with the government aiming to bring it into operation by December, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal has said.
In a 21-second video posted on Facebook, Lamsal said people would not have to wait much longer for the bridge to become operational.
His remarks came after Onlinekhabar published a report on Thursday highlighting delays in the bridge’s construction and the difficulties faced by residents.
According to Lamsal, the slab concreting work on the first of the three remaining spans has been completed. The slab casting work on the other two spans is scheduled to be completed within the next five days.
River control works are also continuing alongside bridge construction, he said.
The minister said the government was accelerating construction with the aim of opening the bridge by December.
“Bringing this project, which has remained troubled for 15 years, into operation is our priority,” Lamsal wrote on Facebook.
The incomplete bridge has long disrupted travel between Siraha and Dhanusha. Residents, travellers and businesses in both districts have faced difficulties because the bridge has yet to come into operation.
