The Kathmandu District Court has ordered that Binita Khadka, a candidate for the Nepali Congress central committee who was arrested in connection with an alleged scam involving promises of caregiver jobs in Israel, be investigated without being kept in custody.

The order was issued by a bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Tej Bahadur Khadka.

The court said statements made by other defendants did not appear to implicate Khadka. It also noted that the complaints filed by the alleged victims did not contain any details indicating that Khadka had taken money from the complainants or was involved in the alleged offence.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested five people in connection with the case so far, including Khadka, Nepali Congress leader Bharat Prasad Chaulagain, Balika Shiwakoti of Dolakha, Gyan Bahadur Karki and Shivaram Shrestha.

The CIB initially investigated the case as fraud. However, after further investigation indicated the involvement of additional individuals and suggested that the alleged scheme had been operated in an organised manner, police also added organised crime charges.
