Police recover 18 muzzle-loading guns hidden in forests in Surkhet

Police have recovered 18 muzzle-loading guns hidden in forests at three locations in Surkhet district.

The weapons were recovered from two local units — Chaukune and Barahatal rural municipalities — during separate search operations conducted by police teams acting on specific information.

A team led by Inspector Bhupendra Shahi of the Area Police Office, Babiyachaur, along with personnel from the Area Police Office, recovered five guns from the forest in Sanneghari, Ward 7 of Chaukune Rural Municipality.

Similarly, a police team deployed from the Temporary Police Post, Lagam, recovered 12 guns from the forest in Dhamisen, Ward 1 of Chaukune Rural Municipality.

In a separate operation, a team from the Ranighat Police Post recovered one gun from the forest in Jamire, Ward 1 of Barahatal Rural Municipality.

The recovery brings the total number of weapons seized from the three locations to 18, with the largest number found in Dhamisen.

Police said the weapons were found concealed in the forests during searches conducted on the basis of specific information.

The authorities are investigating the source of the weapons, the reasons they were hidden in the forests and the identities of those involved.

Police have not disclosed who hid the guns, how long they had been there or what they were intended to be used for. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
