Police raid gambling den in Kanchanpur at midnight, 5 arrested

Police have raided a gambling den in Kanchanpur in the middle of the night. Gamblers scattered after the raid, and some fled, leaving behind their cars and motorcycles at the scene.

A joint team from the Provincial Police Office and the Area Police Office, Tribhuvanbasti, carried out the raid at around 2 am. Acting on information that high-stakes gambling was under way on a tarpaulin spread over a dirt road section at Purainaa in Punarbas Municipality-1, the team moved in.

According to police, five people were taken into custody during the raid. Many other gamblers fled when they learned the police team had arrived.

DSP Tek Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said the five are in custody and an investigation into the incident is under way.

Those arrested are Jagat Bahadur Dhami of Rajipur in Gauriganga Municipality-4, Kailali; Bikram Bista of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-4; Prem Bahadur Singh of Jugeda in Dhangadhi-12; Krishna Bahera of Bungal Municipality-11, Bajhang; and Suresh Tamang of Balabhadrabasti in Punarbas Municipality-1.

Police said they recovered Rs 20,910 in cash from the five. They are being held at the Area Police Office, Tribhuvanbasti.

Police also found four cars, two scooters and nine motorcycles at the gambling site. Police said the other gamblers abandoned their vehicles at the scene and fled after the team arrived.
