Kathmandu, October 4
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle arrived in the United States on Sunday night, leading a two-member delegation.
Wagle was received in Washington, DC, by Nepal’s Acting Ambassador Sharad Raj Aran and officials from the Nepali Embassy.
During his visit, Wagle is scheduled to meet US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on Monday.
The meetings are expected to focus on strengthening Nepal’s economic partnership and cooperation with the United States and the World Bank.
According to officials, discussions will cover ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, support Nepal’s efforts to exit the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list, and advance broader economic reforms.
The Nepali delegation will also seek additional assistance for the reconstruction of physical and economic infrastructure damaged by the recent floods in the Bhotekoshi area.
Wagle is expected to discuss support for reconstruction and resilient development with representatives of the World Bank and the US government.
The visit will also focus on attracting greater investment from development partners and the private sector in key infrastructure projects, including roads and electricity transmission lines.
The government aims to use such investment to create jobs and expand economic opportunities within Nepal.
During his visit, Wagle is also scheduled to meet senior officials of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and leading private-sector investors.
The visit is aimed at strengthening Nepal’s economic partnerships, mobilising development assistance and investment, and supporting the country’s broader economic reform agenda.
