Nepal is set to play against Sri Lanka in the men’s cricket quarter-final at the 20th Asian Games on Tuesday. If Nepal win, they will make history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time, where they will face India.
India advanced to the semi-finals on higher seeding on Monday after their quarter-final against Afghanistan could not be played because of rain. Pakistan have also reached the last four after their match against Hong Kong was abandoned.
Nepal reached the quarter-finals as winners of Group A. After beating Afghanistan in the group stage, Nepal secured top spot when their match against Japan ended with no result because of rain.
However, there is again a high chance of rain in Japan on Tuesday. If the quarter-final between Nepal and Sri Lanka is also washed out, higher-seeded Sri Lanka will go through to the semi-finals and Nepal’s campaign will end at the quarter-final stage.
Nepal have never progressed beyond the quarter-finals at the Asian Games. At the previous edition, Nepal lost to India in the quarter-finals.
