A total of 364 bodies have been recovered in Chitwan following the floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, with 14 of them identified so far.
DNA samples have been collected from 81 relatives of people who remain missing to assist in the identification process.
According to Rameshwar Paudel, superintendent of police at the District Police Office, Chitwan, most of the bodies recovered in the district were in a condition that made visual identification difficult.
He said the bodies were therefore managed through DNA testing and the required legal procedures.
The bodies that have been identified have been handed over to their families after completing the necessary legal formalities, Paudel said.
Of the 364 bodies recovered, 349 unidentified bodies have already been safely managed, according to police.
Only one body remains to be managed, while DNA samples from all the bodies that have been managed have been preserved for future identification.
Police have also prioritised collecting DNA samples from relatives of missing people to help establish their identities.
The collected samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory for testing.
