Kispang Rural Municipality Chair Birbal Tamang is facing 10 cases related to banking offences, police said.
Tamang was arrested at the Singha Durbar gate on Monday while leaving after attending a meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah. Police said 10 banking offence cases have been filed against him at various police offices.
The Kathmandu District Police Range has completed its investigation into a banking offence case involving Rs 30.4 million and submitted the case file to the District Government Attorney’s Office.
The Kathmandu police range has also forwarded another case involving Rs 10.33 million to the government attorney’s office.
Case files for two other banking offences, involving Rs 4.8 million and Rs 9.5 million respectively, have also been submitted.
According to Kathmandu Police Range SP Dan Bahadur Thapa, a fraud case involving Rs 25.6 million has also been forwarded to the government attorney’s office.
Police said a Rs 200,000 banking offence case has been registered at the Bhaktapur Police Range, while cases involving Rs 7.5 million, Rs 525,000, Rs 1.98 million and an unspecified amount have been registered at the Janasewa, Durbar Marg, Lainchaur and Maharajgunj police circles, respectively.
Prime Minister Shah had held discussions with local representatives from flood-affected areas. Tamang had gone to Singha Durbar to attend the meeting.
