Police have arrested two people after recovering 162 kilograms of marijuana from an inner road section in Bhabar, Manahari Rural Municipality-9, Makwanpur. According to police, the marijuana was recovered from a car, registration number Ba Pra 01-025 Cha 0877, which was travelling from Bhabar towards Kharanga at around 2:45 am on Tuesday.
A patrol team from the Area Police Office, Manahari, acting on a tip-off, stopped and searched the vehicle while an SUV, registration number Ga 2 Cha 615, was escorting it. Police said they found 13 packets of marijuana wrapped in plastic on the car seats during the search.
When police attempted to stop the escorting vehicle, the people in both vehicles tried to flee. However, police managed to arrest 56-year-old Dev Narayan Mahato of Dhobaha, Madi Municipality-5, Chitwan, who was driving the car, and 48-year-old Tek Bahadur Dong of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-24, Chitwan, who was driving the SUV.
Police said preliminary questioning revealed that the jeep had been escorting the car carrying the marijuana. Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
