The death toll from the devastating Rasuwa flood on August 26 has reached 1,294, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The authority confirmed the recovery of 1,294 bodies during a press briefing on Friday evening.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Maharjan said 5,053 people are still missing, while 13,095 people have so far been rescued.
According to Maharjan, 4,627 people are currently taking shelter in 37 holding centres across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
Preliminary assessments show that 7,570 houses have been completely destroyed by the floods, directly affecting an estimated 32,933 people.
The disaster has also damaged 48 government structures, 18 schools and seven health facilities, NDRRMA said.
Similarly, 55 kilometres of roads have been completely destroyed, while 37 motorable bridges and 68 suspension bridges have been damaged.
The floods have also destroyed 1,806 hectares of agricultural land. The authority estimates that this will result in a loss of around 7,686 metric tonnes of food production.
Three hydropower projects, one solar plant and two transmission lines have also been damaged, affecting electricity generation capacity of 783 megawatts, according to NDRRMA.
