The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun preparations to operate the Sanjen Hydropower Plant in isolated mode to restore electricity supply in flood-affected areas of Rasuwa.
The NEA is working to operate the local electricity system separately and supply power to affected areas of the district. The authority said the necessary technical preparations and coordination are underway.
To generate electricity from the Sanjen Hydropower Plant and connect it to the local system, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation is coordinating with a Chinese company through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain the necessary assistance to reset the machine’s password.
Meanwhile, alternative energy sources are being prepared for areas where immediate reconnection to the electricity system is not possible.
The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre is preparing to provide electricity through solar power and other alternative sources in areas where the electricity infrastructure has been damaged by the floods.
The NEA said the strategy is to deploy alternative energy sources to meet immediate needs while repairs to flood-damaged electricity infrastructure and efforts to restore regular power supply continue.
