Kathmandu, August 31
Cargo and containers that would normally enter Nepal through the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border point have increasingly started being diverted towards the Korala border point in Mustang following the complete destruction of the Rasuwagadhi crossing in the floods.
The Armed Police Force checkpost in Jomsom collected details of 66 cargo containers on Sunday evening.
The Jomsom checkpost said the number of containers being diverted to Korala for the import of goods has been increasing since the Rasuwagadhi border point was completely closed.
Kumar Devkota, a container driver heading towards Korala, said goods that would normally be imported through Rasuwagadhi have been diverted to Korala, prompting him to travel towards the border point to transport the cargo.
The government had brought Korala into operation as an alternative border point. The Mustang Customs Office at Korala collected Rs 6.92 billion in revenue in the fiscal year 2025/26.
The customs office collected a further Rs 290 million in revenue in the first month of the current fiscal year, according to the office.
Mustang Customs Office Chief Bidur Chudal said the office currently has 18 sanctioned positions, but only 12 employees are working there.
