Heavy rain likely in some hilly areas of 5 provinces today

Kathmandu, August 23

Monsoon winds currently prevail across the country, with the monsoon trough lying near its average position, according to the Hydrology and Meteorology Forecasting Division.

The division reports that skies are generally cloudy nationwide, with light-to-moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in one or two locations in Gandaki province.

Today, skies will remain generally cloudy across the country. Some areas in the high mountains may see moderate rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall, while many hilly areas can expect moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Some Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as parts of the Tarai in Madhesh, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, may see moderate rain with thunder and lightning.

The division has warned that heavy rain is possible in one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Cloudy conditions will continue tonight as well, with the high mountains likely to see moderate rain with thunder and lightning along with snowfall in some places, while hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim may see moderate rain with thunder and lightning.

The division has urged caution in areas at risk of heavy rain due to the danger of landslides, floods, and erosion, and has asked all concerned to stay updated on its advisories, as the rain could affect daily life as well as agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transport in the affected areas.
