New executive committee elected at Nepal National Ethnic Museum

Kathmandu, August 23

Kumar Blon Tamang has been re-elected as chairperson of the Nepal National Ethnic Museum. Tamang was re-elected for a three-year term at the general convention held on Saturday.

The convention elected Ran Bahadur Thami as first vice-chairperson, Gangamaya Dhimal as second vice-chairperson, Indira Jimi as general secretary, Engineer Sanu Babu Prajapati as secretary, Rup Bahadur Yonjan as treasurer, and Bhim Prasad Yonghang as joint treasurer.

Similarly, Govind Ram Chepang, Bilam Moktan, Radhakrishna Basnet, Dr Pashupati Neupane, Prof. Dr Dhan Bahadur Kunwar, Krishnakumari Subba, Urken Dorje Lama, Harichan Chhantyal and Tank Prasad Pandey were elected as members.

The new leadership of the museum, which aims to preserve and promote Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multilingual and multicultural identity, includes representation from various ethnic communities.

The newly elected executive committee is expected to make the preservation, promotion, documentation and intergenerational transmission of the languages, cultures, arts, traditions, attire, lifestyles and intangible cultural heritage of various communities across Nepal more effective over the next three years.
