Tokha-Chhahare road section to remain closed at night amid landslide risk

Nuwakot, August 19

The Nuwakot District Administration Office has decided to close the Tokha-Chhahare road section at night following an increase in landslides and mudslides triggered by rainfall.

According to Nuwakot Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Regmi, the road will remain closed to traffic from 10 pm to 5 am every day due to the heightened risk of landslides, mudslides and falling rocks.

The road is a major route connecting Dhading and the Rasuwagadhi border point with China through Nuwakot.

The administration said traffic would be restricted during the night to ensure the safety of passengers and motorists. Only essential and emergency vehicles will be allowed to operate during the closure.

The Ghattekhola section of the Tokha-Chhahare road in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8 has been identified as particularly vulnerable to landslides, mudslides and rockfalls.

The restriction came into effect on the night of August 17 and will remain in place until further notice.

Regmi said security personnel would be deployed at high-risk locations to monitor the situation and facilitate emergency movement.

Ambulances and other essential emergency vehicles will be allowed to operate during the restricted hours.

For disaster-related information and assistance, the public can contact the District Police Office at 100, the Armed Police Force at 1114, and the District Emergency Operations Centre at 1234.
